Where It All Began
Today, Cameron Diaz is known as one of Hollywood’s most popular female stars. Over the last two decades she’s played a range of characters from the crazy, fun-loving Mary Jensen in There’s Something About Mary to the darker Jenny Everdeane in the historical drama, Gangs of New York. Amidst such a successful and thriving career, it’s appropriate to take a trip back and see just where this beautiful, talented star came from.The tall, blue-eyed blonde, was born in San Diego in 1972. She began her career as a model and got her start in acting when she was 21. Despite having no experience, she was cast as the lead female role in the 1994 hit, The Mask. This comedy, also starring Jim Carrey, was a dazzling start for Diaz, who was nominated for the 1995 MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance. After this hit, she spent several years acting in lower budget films such as Feeling Minnesota and A Life Less Ordinary. Her roles in the hit comedies My Best Friend’s Wedding and There’s Something About Mary are what finally pushed her into superstardom. Both of these roles brought her a Blockbuster Entertainment Award. She won Favorite Supporting Actress-Comedy in 1998 for My Best Friend’s Wedding and Favorite Actress-Comedy in 1999 for There’s Something About Mary. Since then, she has been nominated for and won countless other awards for a variety of different roles in films such as Vanilla Sky, Charlie’s Angels, Being John Malkovich and The Holiday. She continues to expand her repertoire, scoring big in all of the Shrek movies as the voice of Princess Fiona.From her surprise jump from modeling to acting to the megastar she is today, Cameron Diaz continues to impress fans and critics with each new role.
